Top 5 Winter Booties for 2019
Winter is not as cute as summer. It rains, it snows, and there are slush puddles – you know what looks like ice frozen over but it’s really a deep puddle that laughs after you’ve taken a long step into it, soaking your socks and shoes. Here’s a hilarious article from Time Out magazine about these slush puddles.
Even though the days of cute sandals and summer dresses are long gone, you don’t need to retreat into puffy marshmallow jackets and combat boots just yet. Here are the best booties to walk into winter and salvage whatever dignity we have left.
What’s the difference between a boot and a bootie?
Everybody knows what a boot is. Traditionally, it is a flat shoe that goes right up to the knee. Ankle boots end about one to four inches above your ankle. On the other hand, a bootie ends right at your ankle. (No, we are not referring to pirate treasure or a lady’s behind.)
Lately, though, booties have come to include ankle boots that commonly have a bit of a heel. So for all intents and purposes, this blog will use “bootie” to mean any low boot with a bit of height to elevate your look.
The Last Hurrah Bootie
We call this the last hurrah bootie. We’re all wearing long pants and sweaters but we’re wearing a peep-toe bootie as a tribute to warmer weather.
And we like that these booties have a bit of height. Since it’s a last hurrah to summer, it’s kind of worth it, right?
Classic Black Bootie
Every girl needs a classic black bootie. They go with nearly every outfit and are a staple in your closet. Opt for a low heel for a more casual look, or add some height and attitude with a higher heel.
Brown Leather Booties
Would your shoe collection be complete without a gorgeous brown leather boot? I’m all for black leather boots too, but synthetic black boots are more forgiving in NYC winters. A brown leather boot…that’s a different ballgame.
Brown leather can be a show stopper and it ages beautifully. Choose from clean medium shades, distressed leather, a lighter whiskey, or a dark sophisticated tan. We even love brown leather for bags too.
Statement Booties: Leopard and Snake Print
For bold outfits, look no further than leopard and cheetah print. You either hate or love this trend. We personally think that it looks good, if you style your outfit right. Wouldn’t want that Cougar Town feeling (we actually love that show).
Lace-Up Booties
We call these shoes journalist booties. It’s like Laura Croft meets Lois Lane type of shoes.
Lace up these bad boys and go conquer the world!
You didn’t include TOMS shoes!
We didn’t include any iconic TOMS boots because we’re currently in a love-hate relationship with them. In our testing, we’ve found that some styles wear out too quickly. But we’ll cover these in an in-depth TOMS review coming soon.
