6 Best Lipsticks for Chapped Lips

Matte lips have been all the rage. But let’s be real. It’s winter. The air is dry. Our lips are chapped. We can’t wear matte lipstick right now because our lips are crumbling and peeling.

All the wrinkles and crumbling pieces of dry skin are accentuated with matte lipsticks because those lipsticks are innately drying.

But, if you’re battling the unglamorous plague of chapped lips, run far away from matte liquid lipsticks. But here are some lip alternatives until you get back on your feet.

1. Milani Color Statement Lipstick

We call this one my “juicy lipstick.” It’s very moisturizing with a slight sheen because it’s infused with Vitamins A and C and gives my lips a slight pout.

We own a few shades, but the most wearable shade is Naturally Chic. Kind of like your lips, but better and more fun.

2. Maybelline Color Sensational Inti-Matte Nudes

I know. You’re freaking out because the name of this lipstick has the word “matte.” Depending on how severe your chapped lips are, you can still wear this lipstick.

This lipstick isn’t drying but super creamy. We really like the shade Almond Rose, which is a beautiful rosey-nude.

Although the name says it’s matte, it will transfer. So, don’t go around kissing people!

3. e.l.f. Matte Lip Color

When your lips are cracked and dry, you’ll naturally want a lip product that blurs the lines. This lip pencil blends really easily and is enriched with Vitamin A, C, and E to hydrate lips.

There’s very little sheen to the color, and it will transfer. It’s also not the most long-lasting, but with the price point, it’s basically a quick go-to lipstick until you get your chapped lips affairs in order.

Our favorite shade is Wine.

4. Revlon Lip Matte Balm

These lip balms deliver a punch of color with a matte-like finish. They are not transfer-proof, but they also aren’t drying. So, you win some, you lose some.

Chapped lips, take heed. These bad boys are infused with shea, mango, and coconut butters. That’s three types of butters! You’re welcome.

Our favorite shade is Sultry. It’s not too dark but gives your lips an edge. And it works on so many skin tones.

There’s a rumor that this line is being discontinued. So, we think we’re going to take a break while writing this article to stock up.

5. Sugar Lip Balm

We love sugar lip balms. These lip balms are for severely chapped lips. We literally have all the colors to the original OG Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment as well as the drugstore version, Covergirl Oh Sugar! Lip Balm.

High-end Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment

The Fresh Sugar hydrates and smoothes your lips. We’ve only tried the satin-finish, but are interested in the shimmer version too.

Certain shades, like Petal, Berry, and Spice, pack some real color. The Rosé shade is extremely sheer and a great color to stick in your bag because it goes with any outfit.

Drugstore Covergirl Oh Sugar! Lip Balm

The Covergirl sugar lip balm is much sheerer. We equate it to a tinted chapstick. The two colors that actually show up on our lips are Soda and Gumdrop. But we can wear these ALL DAY because it feels like you’re just wearing a hydrating lip treatment. It’s so comfortable that we have to constantly remind myself that we have color on and shouldn’t carelessly touch our lips.

6. Nars Velvet Matte Lipstick Pencil (Featured Photo)

Here we go again. Magnolia and Tulle is recommending another a matte lip. It’s okay! This velvet finish feels so luxurious and gives our lips life instead of sucking out the moisture.

The formula is enriched with Vitamin E and emollients (aka it helps soften your lips). This velvet lip is creamy, blurs the lines in your lips, and is so forgiving when you have chapped lips. Holy. Grail.

Is it a surprise that our favorite shade is Cruella? It’s a cult favorite and literally, the perfect red.

Just because you have chapped lips, doesn’t mean you can only wear Vaseline or a translucent lip balm all winter. And let’s be real, we need color on our lips since our summer tan has already faded. Try some of these more forgiving lipsticks that can give your lips life again.
